A BANK worker has appeared in court charged with stealing more than £40,000 from her employers at the Santander branch in Torquay.

Jennifer Davies, 24, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of theft by employee when she appeared at the magistrates court in Torquay.

The court was told Davies, of Warberry Road West, had responsibility for dealing with cash point deposits at the bank but helped herself to £10,000 on various dates between August, 2011, and June, 2012.

She entered no plea to a further charge that between January, 2011, and June, 2012, she stole more money from Santander.

It was alleged this charge would take the total sum stolen by Davies to £41,345.

District judge Maurice Champion said the case was so serious that it could only be dealt with at Exeter Crown Court.

It was adjourned until January 11. Davies was granted bail until then.
