Torquay hotel goes 'all out' for Christmas
CHRISTMAS is alive and well at Torquay's Howden Court Hotel — which hit the headlines earlier in the year with its 1940s wartime theme breaks.
Its guest 'executions' made headlines in several national newspapers and also on Channel 5's 'The Wright Stuff' TV programme.

Now the hotel has gone OTT with Christmas trees galore, a miniature snowscene village, Santa's tree-lined grotto, life-size reindeers, ceiling decorations and much more.
Manager Brian Robertson, explained: "We have found that in times of gloom and hardship, spirits are lifted with the special atmosphere of Christmas.

"Many guests enjoy these special pre-Christmas breaks and at Howden Court Hotel they have an early visit from Santa who brings along Christmas presents for those that have been good.
"Many guests explain to us that for them, a turkey and tinsel break represents the 'real Christmas'.
"At Howden Court Hotel, we go all out and provide a programme of events including fancy hat competitions, Christmas quiz, in-house pantomime, sherry reception, mince pies after bingo, bubbly breakfast and mulled wine.
"While many hotels have decided to either provide less turkey and tinsel breaks and some have omitted it all together we already have several groups booked in for next year's festive-theme breaks," said Brian.
For 2013, the breaks planned include the 1940s, cruise weeks that 'visit far off lands without leaving the hotel', the swinging 1960s with 'flowery shirts, flares and beads a must', Caribbean events and country and western.
