Totnes Early Music Society season starts
WHILE most organisations start their new season next month, the here rather aptly-named Totnes Early Music Society (TEMS) gets its 2013/14 under way next Friday.
The Carnival Band will appear at St Mary's Church at 7.30pm, as part of the town's annual festival.
Programme coordinator Jill Tomalin said: "We are delighted to be opening with The Carnival Band, known to folk-music aficionados as the outfit which regularly tours with Steeleye Span's Maddy Prior, and is sometimes referred to as Henry VIII's Rock'n'Roll band!"
The TEMS series continues with a visit from London Baroque in October, followed by a concert of songs and dance music from Leah Stuttard in November. Leah's programme features the rarely-heard Gothic harp in music which would have been played in people's homes towards the end of the 15th century.

After Christmas there's a recital by lutenist Jakob Lindberg in February, viol-quartet Chelys in March, and the Daughters of Elvin next May.
Jill added: "The Society is keen to welcome new members, who then get a sizeable discount off individual ticket prices. But we also want to promote the special pleasure of live music from top musicians, playing an exciting and varied array of music from the past, particularly to young people, so we offer family membership which allows all children under 18 to attend free, when their parents are members."
