Exmouth shoreline shut for £800,000 repairs

Sections of the seafront at a Devon coastal town are to be fenced off as part of £800,000 repair plans.

Contractor Dyer and Butler is to replace ageing concrete blockwork from the 1980s along the foreshore of the Imperial Recreation Ground near the Exe Estuary in Exmouth.

The scheme, by East Devon District Council, is scheduled to start this month and extend into "late spring", a council spokesman said.

Councillor Iain Chubb, cabinet member for the environment, said he was aware of the importance of the public open space, adding that disruption would be kept "to a minimum".
