Trago Mills completes £2m solar switch-on
One of the region's biggest retailers has switched on a new energy project to help power its stores from the sun.
The renewable energy solar scheme at Trago Mills' Newton Abbot site has been hailed as the largest single roof-mounted array in Northern Europe, with an investment of more than £2 million. All 3,754 panels, which will generate 778,862 kWh of power for the store, were switched on yesterday.

Trago chairman Bruce Robertson said: "With an electricity bill in excess of a quarter of a million pounds per annum at the Newton Abbot site alone, it was imperative a solution was identified that provided substantial savings and certainty for the future. Energy security itself is a major consideration in ensuring the business is well placed to remain a dynamic force within the local retail hierarchy in years to come."
The panels, made by German firm SolarWorld, were installed by trading partner Devon Eco Energy. The switch-on was done by Teignbridge District Council leader Jeremy Christophers. Smaller installations will take place at Trago's Liskeard and Falmouth stores.
