UPDATE: Flooding in Mid Devon

MORE rain is expected this evening and overnight following flooding last night which saw a supermarket petrol station's forecourt in Tiverton submerged in around three feet of water.

The forecourt of Morrisons was flooded as were parts of the road network surrounding the Kennedy Way store following severe showers in the early hours of Sunday, December 23. Motorists on Great Western Way were also affected by flooding while the riverside walk alongside the River Exe was completely under water.

Around 20 properties in Stoke Canon -where the A396 was closed both ways- had to be evacuated with tempoary shelter provided at Rewe

Village Hall. The A3072 at Bickleigh was also closed both ways at A396 Exeter Road junction because of flooding as was the A377 at Chulmleigh.

Devon and Cornwall Police are advising anyone if they have to travel to please plan their journey and allow extra time. Many roads are closed ut some are passable with care.

The Met Office says furhter rain is likely to hit the South West, starting at 6-7pm this evening, increasing by 9pm and heavier rain expected around midnight. More rain is also forecast on Christmas Eve late morning until afternoon.
