UPDATE: Man arrested after woman attacked in Exeter

A man has been arrested following a mugging incident in Exeter City Centre.

The woman was hospitalised after she was allegedly attacked on a foot path in the city.

The female was walking alone behind the Southgate Mercure Hotel near to Southern Street, when she was allegedly punched by a man at 12.20pm today.

The woman's injuries have been described as minor, but she has been taken to The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital to be checked up.

Police report she was punched and her attacker escaped with her mobile phone.

The lane was cordoned off while police took pictures of the scene but was reopened by 2:30pm.

Any witnesses to the attack are asked by police to call them on the non-emergency number 101 quoting log number 0348.

A 28-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.
