UPDATE: Science Park travellers move on but leave mess in their wake
Travellers that moved on to part of the Science Park near Exeter Airport for a week, have moved on but left the site blighted by rubbish.
About six caravans and campervans moved onto the field off Tithebarn Lane in Monkerton some time on the weekend of August 10.
The land is due to be developed as part of the Science Park business park and access to the site had been blocked to vehicles by a huge mound of earth placed in front of a steel gate, which was padlocked shut.
However the majority of the earth mound was removed and the gate hung open while the group settled at the site.

Signs on the boundary warn passersby against trespassing on the site as construction work is going on. The land is being developed by SWH Civils.
Science Park officials put in motion steps which includes applying to the court, to have the travellers evicted if necessary.
The site has not been a regular target of traveller communities.
This is the first time the north of the site has been targeted by travellers. However last year travellers moved on to the southern part.
Gerry Shatock, business development manager for the Science Park, said: “This has been hugely disappointing. We thought the site was secure enough.
“They moved onto the site last weekend and we went through the appropriate procedures to have them removed – but this takes time.
“I have been told they have left quite a mess and this now needs to be assessed to make sure what rubbish has been left is properly disposed of.
“The site needs to be made safe and steps will now be taken to make sure it is secure.”
