Unemployment down in district
UNEMPLOYMENT fell in Mid Devon last month, according to official statistics, with fewer than 950 people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance.
The figure fell from 967 claimants in August to 946 in September, after it reached a high of more than 1,000 earlier this year.
The Office for National Statistics figures show that the number of people claiming JSA across the whole of Devon has fallen by 2.8 per cent over the past month.
The claimant count across the county has gone down by 263 claimants between August and September, falling from 9,273 to 9,010.

In neighbouring West Somerset, the number of JSA claimants are 351, representing 1.8 per cent of the population – well below the national average.
Youth unemployment across the county has also fallen very slightly this month from 2,745 in August to 2,700 in September representing a 1.6 per cent monthly decrease.
