Update: Man, 56, dies after being hit by Tiverton to Taunton train
A FIFTY-SIX-year-old man believed to be from Wellington has died after being hit by a train travelling between Tiverton Parkway and Taunton.
Officers from British Transport Police and Avon & Somerset Police and medics from the South Western Ambulance Service were called to the scene shortly before 8.45pm last night (Monday).
A body on the tracks had been spotted by Network Rail track maintenance staff who were working on the railway line at Crosslands in Wellington, Somerset.
British Transport Police said the body of a man was located with injuries "consistent with having been hit by a train". The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 56 and from Wellington. It is unclear at this stage which train struck the man and at what time.
His death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.
Services were delayed for up to two hours between Taunton and Exeter St David's. The railway line was handed back to Network Rail shortly after 10.30pm.
