HUNDREDS of people have united to support a Torquay family left devastated by the death of their seven-month old baby daughter.

Mum Carla Thompson, from Ellacombe, said she has been overwhelmed by the love and support she has been shown as her 'little angel' Isla (pictured) fought bravely for life.

But she died the next morning with her mum and dad, Michael Thompson, at her side.

Since then, more than £2,300 has been donated to an online fundraising page to give Isla a fitting funeral.

More than 700 friends and family have also joined a Facebook group saying prayers for Isla, with many of them describing her as a little angel.

Carla, who is too upset to speak, posted on her Facebook page: "We thank you all so much, you have somehow eased this unbearable heartache.

"You have shown my Isla love only a mother could. I bow down to you all, thank you."

The little girl has been treated at the specialist hospital since she was found unconscious at home.

The cause of death has yet to be established.

She has two brothers, Kyle, seven, and Mikey, nine.

Close friend Ben Taylor and his partner Holly Connors set up the Facebook group and fundraising page for Isla x at www.gofundme.com

Ben said: "I'm amazed by the generosity of some people. It takes my breath away. We are not asking anybody to do this. It was set up for the people who wanted to give Isla the best send off the Bay has ever seen."

The couple's local pub, the Country House, will be collecting on behalf of the fund.

Landlady Lynsey Billingsey said: "It is so very, very sad. It was only recently Carla celebrated her birthday and I decorated the pub in pink.

"It was the first night out she had since the baby was born.

"I know that everyone will support them in every way they can."
