VIDEO: North Devon's own Vicar of Dibley takes to the stage
CHRISTINE England, from Barnstaple, is all too aware that she has a hard act to follow in Dawn French when she steps out as the fun-loving, chocolate-obsessed cleric in The Vicar Of Dibley. Christine, who plays the role for Atlantic Coast Theatre (ACT), has often been told she has similarities to the actress.
"My friends are always telling me that I remind them of Dawn French," she said. "I hope this comes across in my performance. I am very excited about playing Geraldine, the Vicar of Dibley. She is such an iconic character and I was thrilled to get the part."

Christine and fellow actors will be performing four of the most loved episodes from the TV series including The Easter Bunny and The Christmas Lunch Incident.
"I never really realised just how much her character had to say in each episode," said Christine. "I've certainly had my work cut out learning all my lines.
"It will be great to finally get on stage and perform in front of a live audience – if I remember everything, that is!"
ACT, who last year had a sell-out tour with Blackadder, will tour The Vicar Of Dibley throughout North Devon, opening on Thursday, August 15 at Croyde Village Hall and ending on Tuesday, September 17 at the Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple. Other performances include Dolton Village Hall and Westleigh Village Hall in August.
The Vicar Of Dibley TV series was adored for its slightly sheltered, eccentric, albeit very loveable characters and ACT are looking forward to reintroducing them on stage for Dibley fans.
