“Thankfully the rain has held off and it is not too hot for everyone.
“It seems to be picking up well and hopefully it will be packed later tonight.
“This is always a good event to kick off the week and get everyone in the spirit.”
One of the stall holders Leah Jenkins, 14, who lives in the village, had spent the past two days baking cupcakes which she was selling at the event today.
She said: “It is great way to start the carnival and it is something we all look forward to.
“I am going to be in the procession as well and this event is always good, I will probably stay quite late tonight and enjoy the music and bands.”
Steve Armstrong, a firefighter in the village, was at the event with his family.
He said: “The carnival is such a good event because it brings a lot of the villagers together who maybe don’t see each other at any other time in the year.
“I am involved in the procession later in the week along with the kids, that is probably the best bit.”
Lorna and David Meredith-Jones, from Staffordshire, were the start of the carnival for the first time having enjoyed a week’s holiday in the village.
Lorna said: “We didn’t realise it was on until we saw a sign in the campsite. We have had a great time so I think we will be coming back again.
“There seems to be a really nice atmosphere and the kids are really enjoying it too.”
The bands are due to start playing in the park at 6pm tonight until 11.30pm.
The next event during the week long carnival is the carnival parade which is due take place on Wednesday from 6-6.30pm
The wheel barrow and parade is due to happen on Friday, August 16, from 6.30-7pm.
The carnival finishes on Saturday, August 17, with a static motor show from 10am until 3pm in the coach park.
