The media company behind celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage is set to open a new digital production and communications hub in Newquay.

The celebrity chef and Eden Project co-founder Tim Smit will be among the high-profile guests to attend the office launch tonight.

The London-based company said the move was a result of a "significant investment" and had created 20 jobs employing "predominantly Cornish media talent".

KEO digital, which is behind online platforms including rivercottage.net, fishfight.net and energyshare. com, said it was a business that was "highly committed" to the Westcountry.

It was established to create an online platform for River Cottage eight years ago, on the back of the success of the River Cottage TV series produced by KEO Films. Recent KEO digital projects include energyshare, the community energy platform, which has helped to deliver Cornwall Together, the new collective energy-buying initiative, in partnership with Cornwall Council and the Eden Project.

It is also behind crowd-funding venture peoplefund.it, in partnership with Plymouth University.

Appointments to its Cornwall office include Dawn Bebe, the former media executive behind the launch of fashion weekly, Grazia.

The now Westcountry-based founding director of Plymouth-based creative communications agency Onshore Media will act as a consultant to KEO digital.

Its executive director Rob Love said: "We've recently got more involved in projects in Cornwall and the South West and have found partners like Cornwall Council and Plymouth University share a similar vision and ambition for the region."
