THE husband of paedophile nursery worker Vanessa George was rushed to hospital after a suspected suicide attempt yesterday.

Police and paramedics were called to Andrew George's home in Efford, Plymouth, at around 11am, finding him conscious and breathing, but in need of medical attention. The 41-year-old was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital, where he remained last night.

His condition was not believed to be life-threatening.

Father-of-two Mr George, a gas fitter, still lives at the semi-detached house in Douglass Road that he shared with the disgraced 39-year-old nursery worker.

A police spokesman said the incident was not being treated as suspicious. He said: "Police were called to an address in Efford, around 11am yesterday after concern was raised for the welfare of a man thought to be in the property. A man was taken by ambulance to Derriford for treatment.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for South West Ambulance Service said paramedics had been on the scene within five minutes.

He said police had called in the incident just before 11.15am, reporting a concern for welfare at Mr George's home in Douglass Road.

An emergency ambulance with two crew members arrived at the address to find him conscious and breathing. Mr George was then rushed to Derriford Hospital, arriving just before 12.10pm.

The spokesman said: "At 11.13am we were called by the police for a concern for his welfare. We were in attendance with a full crew at 11.17am.

"A male of around 40 years old was conveyed to Derriford Hospital. He was conscious and breathing throughout."

Vanessa George last week admitted a string of horrifying sex crimes against babies and toddlers, which she carried out while working at Little Ted's nursery in Laira.

She was arrested at the Douglass Road address on June 9 after images of her abusing children were found on a laptop in Manchester.

Two other paedophiles she met on the Internet, Colin Blanchard, aged 39 and from Littleborough, Greater Manchester, and Angela Allen, also 39 and from Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, also admitted their parts in the sick child sex triangle.

Mr George has since pleaded with his wife to name her young victims ahead of sentencing next month.

Police have confirmed they are planning to interview George for a sixth time in a fresh bid for answers.
