Warning to dog owners after sheep are savaged
OUT of control dogs have been killing lambs in the heart of Torquay.
Several young animals have been mauled to death in picturesque Cockington in a spate of dog attacks.
Now Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust is appealing to dog owners to make sure their animals are under control. Justin Cox, trust farm and estate manager, said: "This year we have seen a spate of dog attacks on our flock in Cockington and we have lost several lambs as a result.
"It is a sickening waste of life and we appeal to dog-walkers — the vast majority of whom are very responsible — to make sure their dogs are under control, especially when near fields with livestock grazing, and to keep to the footpaths provided.

"If anyone sees a dog running out of control, please take note of any identifying features and report it to the police and to the trust.
"Following an attack two years ago, a dog-owner was successfully prosecuted by police, thanks to evidence supplied by a local resident. Having eyes and ears on the ground is essential to deterring this irresponsible behaviour and preventing further deaths."
