Water lapping at front doors as B3231 Saunton Road is flooded
The B3231 Saunton Road was blocked earlier today due to flooding near Tennis Court Cottages, with water lapping at residents' front doors.
The flooding, caused by a blocked culvert, was reported to police at around 10.30am this morning and the Highways Agency and Fire Service were called to the scene.

The flood was passable but the bow waves created by passing vehicles were causing problems for home owners, said police press officer Alan Mobbs.
Highways Agency workers arrived at the scene at 1pm and set about clearing the culvert and pumping away water. The road is now clear and one property has sustained flood damage. The River Caen has also burst its banks, despite recent flood defence work.

“I don't think the highways agency or the council are doing a very good job at the moment.
Blocked drains, blocked culverts etc exacerbate the flooding, if they had a better policy for keeping water run off areas clear a lot of this flooding wouldn't happen.
I agree with Bangtastic its about time these organisations were held accountable.
I appreciate that we have had a lot of rain, the ground is sodden etc, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be making more effort to help keep the situation under control.”

They don't appear to be doing a very good job.
If that is the case you would expect the residents could claim from the highways agency for being so negligent, as its unlikely their house insurance would pay out?
Maybe the NDJ should do a story about the residents and the difficulties they face, especially at Christmas. It must be horrible to be the victim of flooding, my heart goes out to them.”
