Weather warning in place as rain lashes Devon and Cornwall
Homeowners have been urged to be on their guard with more than an inch of rain expected to fall on parts of the region in the space of three hours.
The Met Office expanded its "yellow" warning to the western half of the country and the south coast with the worst of the weather front expected to hit the region during today.
Up to 40mm (1.5in) of rain could fall on some areas, although a Met Office spokesman said it was unclear where the worst of the rain would hit and how fast the storm would track across the region.
He said: "We are talking about 25-40mm of rain possibly falling in some areas in a matter of hours. Most places will receive a lot less than that and the heaviest downpours will be localised."
