THERE IS less than a week before the deadline for people to submit views on proposed changes to maternity services in Mid Devon.

NHS Devon launched a consultation exercise to hear what people's priorities for maternity services are, it closes on Monday.

Health managers say the re-organisation of midwifery teams and an increase in local clinics to support mothers and babies will create maternity services which better fit the needs in Devon.

Opponents fear the change will result in the loss of overnight stays which they say help in the recuperating process for new mums.

The changes would affect community hospitals in a Tiverton, Honiton and Okehampton.

Janet Rendle, who chaired a working group, said there was still time for people to make their views known.

More information about the proposals can be found at www.devonpct.nhs.uk. The address to send responses to is: Freepost EX184, Business Reply Service, Strategic commissioning, NHS Devon, County Hall, Exeter EX2 4 QL or e-mail comments to d-pc.strategicreview@nhs.net
