Wine of the week
One of the several things I like about this wine is that the maker gives a small sum for every bottle sold to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. Yali Wetland Sauvignon Blanc 2011 (Majestic £7.49) comes from the Colchagua Valley in central Chile where, believe it or not, they face the same sort of environmental challenges in sustaining wetlands that we do, here in decidedly northern-hemisphere Blighty. Most of all, I like the tangy, classic fresh sauvignon appeal of this long, dimensional dry white, which also delivers a comforting dash of the tropical fruitiness more associated with the far south. Chilean sauvignon blanc is carving out a very tasty niche for itself in a market that has been dominated by New Zealand for quite long enough.
