A woman has died in a head-on collision between two cars on a Devon road.

The 32-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash on the A3072, near Holsworthy in North Devon.

Accident investigators are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, which took place during Monday’s evening rush-hour.

The collision happened between Anvil Corner and Dunsland Cross, outside a property called Beechcroft, at about 5.10pm.

The woman was driving a dark grey Citroen Saxo towards Holsworthy when her car was involved in the head-on collision with a blue Audi A6 estate, travelling in the opposite direction.

Firefighters from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene to cut the woman free from the wreckage using hydraulic equipment.

The Audi driver, a 59-year-old man who lives locally, suffered minor injuries.

Devon and Cornwall Police closed the road for about six hours to allow collision investigation work to take place.

Any witnesses are asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 520 of February 13.
