A woman was forced to the ground and kicked in the face during an unprovoked assault in Exeter.

Police said the incident took place at 5.40pm in St James Road on Sunday, although details have only just been published.

The victim, who was in her mid-20s, had just left the Well Street Tavern when she was attacked by a man in his 40s.

DC Emily Sheppard said the woman suffered "significant bruising and swelling to her face after she was forced to the floor and kicked in the face."
