Yeovil Town will focus on eliminating late goals and quick counter-strikes, according to manager Terry Skiverton.

The Glovers slumped to a 3-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy first-round defeat to Exeter City on Tuesday.

Andy Welsh drew ten-men Town level on 76 minutes, only for Jamie Cureton to re-establish the Grecians' lead within a minute. That echoed Yeovil's 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers in npower League One last month when the visitors battled to equalise, only to concede the decisive goal soon afterwards.

The Glovers exited the Carling Cup thanks to Crystal Palace's last-minute winner and conceded to Leyton Orient on the stroke of half-time on the opening day of the League One season.

Skiverton said: "We have got to work on that, we will be in this week working on that and we will have a meeting to put that to bed.

"We have got to move forward and be positive. The heart is there, the spirit is there and the determination is there. I just think we have got to be a bit braver at home to get on the ball in that first period – and we have got to stay stronger."

Skiverton is expected to make a move for a striker when clubs are permitted to borrow players next week.

The Glovers failed to add to their squad before the transfer window shut on Tuesday, and are now without Sam Williams for three games, after his red card on Tuesday.

Skiverton conceded earlier in the season that he required back-up for Williams and is now without a physical presence to spearhead his attack.

The Glovers' boss revealed that he missed out on a target on deadline day, and added he may not go for a direct replacement for Williams when the loan window re-opens.

Skiverton declared: "I want a person who can play in forward role, not necessarily a target man, but a forward-type player."
