A young father was found dead amid Looe’s jubilee celebrations.

Phillip Godbolt, 27, was found slumped in a doorway on Middle Market Street in East Looe at 6am on Saturday.

The father-of-two was last seen leaving the Admiral Boscarn nightclub at around 2.10am, after an evening out with a friend.

Earlier in the night, he was in The Ship pub in the town. He was found by a member of the public, and an ambulance was called, but paramedics were unable to revive him.

Police said a post-mortem examination had yet to be conducted, and that toxicology tests would be carried out if necessary.

Detective Sergeant Tim Wright, of Liskeard CID, said there was no evidence that violence was connected to the death.

He is working to piece together Mr Godbolt’s final hours, and is examining CCTV footage.

He said: “If anyone saw Phillip Godbolt out in Looe on Friday evening or Saturday morning, or has any information about his movements, please get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference BE/12/322.”

Looe town clerk Anne Frith, one of the main organisers of the jubilee celebrations, said the town was saddened by the news.
