AS A Buckfastleigh resident I would like to request that in any further articles you print on our fight against the use of Whitecleave Quarry for the disposal of incinerator bottom ash (IBA) , you make sure of your facts. Both the EU and the UK Government have stated quite positively that disposal of incinerator bottom ash is not recycling, it is waste disposal and should be referred to as such.

The people of Buckfastleigh welcome recycling and we campaigned to keep our recycling centre, which unfortunately was shut down two years ago.

Perhaps, therefore, you would print an article reflecting the fact that IBA is waste disposal, not recycling and ask Paul Carey to explain how he can describe the process as recycling when all competent authorities that license this process quite categorically state that it is not recycling. I believe that your newspaper has shown a bias towards MVV Gilpin and therefore a lack of journalistic integrity on this whole issue for two years – more than enough time to get a grip on the facts.

On a personal note, I live a couple of hundred yards along the road from the quarry and at the risk of sounding like a NIMBY, having chosen to live in a rural area I do not relish the thought of lorries laden with potentially toxic substances thundering past my home at all hours of the night and day.

“The saddest and most shameful part of the issue with the IBA and the incinerator is that the newly elected council COULD have stopped it.

Condition 8 of the planning application referred to the necessity of the site for the ash being allocated BEFORE the construction of the main build could commence.

Of course we were led to believe that the planning officer would not have his biased way....however Condition 8 was signed off by said planning officer and then lo and behold modifications were made to Condition 8 basically stating that the site for the IBA was irrelevant as there was no ash being produced so on with the build!!!!

Just one example of how the planning application that was agreed upon by seven tories changes to suit MVV as we go along.

So as I have to see from my home every day this monstrocity rising to the sky I am reminded of how our council let us all down and with that also let the people of Buckfastleigh down.
I hope with all my heart that Devon County Council continue to listen to the Buckfastleigh community and those of us in Plymouth who support them as they support us and that they keep the greedy mitts of MVV off their quarry.

About time PCC got some small round things used in tennis and took action in FAVOUR of the people of Plymouth.”

“Your inference that IBA is completely waste is not entirely true as it can be and is being reprocessed(recycled?) for use in construction and other uses.

As with any process, be it manufacture of anything there will always be some "waste" until someone comes up with an idea to recycle it into something else.”

    “Hear hear!!

You don't sound like a NIMBY and in fact should be applauded for caring about the area in which you live.

The campaigners in Plymouth have been labelled thus but we are NIABY's..Not In Anyone's Backyard.

It is about time the media did some research instead of being lazy and taking what MVV say as Gospel...there are very few FACTS in what was presented as the planning application and it's about time the data and figures were scrutinised by others rather than those who are blighted by the damn thing...

It's not such a great deal as MVV would have PCC/SWDWP believe.

When the noise was at its worst - and there were months of that - the Herald couldn't come and experience it as residents were but were quick enough to get on site and suck up to MVV.

Remind me again the people who the Herald claims to be for.....”
