Former boss of Plymouth warships appointed First Sea Lord
A FORMER commanding officer of Devonport warships has been appointed as the First Sea Lord.
Admiral Sir George Zambellas has taken the baton from Sir Mark Stanhope.
Sir George joined the Royal Navy in 1980 and has commanded city-based frigates HMS Argyll and the former HMS Chatham.
He was in also in charge of the Royal Navy's amphibious task force and oversaw the introduction of Devonport's HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark into the fleet.

Adm Zambellas also held a post as Plymouth's Deputy Flag Officer Sea Training.
As the First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, Adm Zambellas is the Royal Navy's professional head and Chairman of the Navy Board.
He is responsible to Secretary of State for the fighting effectiveness, efficiency and morale of the Naval Service, and supports the Secretary of State in the management and direction of the Armed Forces.
A number of other senior military post changes were announced by Defence Secretary Philip Hammond.
