Voting has now closed in a competition for a £10,000 eco-makeover of a community building in the Westcountry.

Earlier this year the WMN joined forces with Calor to find a winner of the energy company's Eco-Community of the Year competition.

Hundreds of public votes have been cast supporting the 15 shortlisted buildings across Dorset, Devon, Somerset and Cornwall.

The winner will be notified next week and will be revealed in the WMN on Saturday September 15.

Calor experts will work with the winning building to install environmentally friendly technology such as solar panels, insulation or an energy efficient boiler.

Two runners-up will win an energy audit from a Calor expert and a barbecue.

Residents collected tokens, available through the WMN and handed them in at their local community building before the public voted by sending tokens to the newspaper.

Alastair Lovell, spokesman for the energy company, said the event had been a triumph.

He said: "The competition has been a huge success so far – largely thanks to passionate locals who have nominated and given their support to local community buildings in their area.

"The votes are currently being counted and we're very much looking forward to informing the winner of their success."

The 15 are: Roborough Village Hall, Bickington Village Hall, Shobrooke Village Hall, Braunton Parish Hall, Jubilee Hall Chawleigh, Ashreighey Village Hall, St Mary's Hall, Dawlish Warren, and Brixton Community Hall – all in Devon.

In Cornwall, Sennen Churchtown Hall, Roche Victory Hall, Liskeard Silverband Hall, Lanreath Village Hall, Looe and Wilcove Hall, Torpoint were on the shortlist with Evershot Village Hall, Dorset, and Washford Village Memorial Hall, Somerset.
