No more early rises for Pete and Angela
IT'S ALWAYS sad to see an independent shop closing in a small town like Hatherleigh.
Last Saturday Pete's Home Bake was selling its delicious variety of rolls, pasties and mouth-watering cakes to Hatherleigh residents for the last time.
Angela and Pete were closing their bakery after 23 years of baking bread on the premises.
No-one can dispute that they have earned their retirement.

After years of starting work at 3am Pete must have forgotten what a lie-in is.
But their wonderfully personal service and fantastic range of tempting rolls, bread, cakes and homemade preserves will be sadly missed.
Buying bread and cakes on the supermarket shelves just isn't the same as pointing out the cake in the counter which has caught your eye, or knowing that the granary rolls might still be warm from the oven when you buy them at 8am.
Did you ever see Angela looking anything but cheerful and welcoming as she popped your purchase in a bag?
She says that she will miss the customers more than the early mornings and customers say they will miss her friendly service.
The Saddlers from just up the road is moving into the bakery premises, and the undoubtedly pleasant scent of leather may compensate for the loss of those juicy pasties and the smell of baking that wafted from the side window early in the morning as residents hurried to work, school or the newsagents opposite.
Angela and Pete deserve their more relaxing way of life, and I'm sure everyone in Hatherleigh wishes them the very best.
