Three fighting for council seat
THERE are three candidates for the vacant seat on Tiverton Town Council – George Birch, Di Donaghy and Jo Young.
Mr Birch has recent experience of polling, having stood for UKIP in the Devon County Council elections in May.
An election will take place on Thursday, August 20 to select a new councillor for Tiverton's Lowman ward to replace Paul Graham, who resigned last month.
The candidates had until noon today to withdraw from the election race if they no longer wished to stand.

A vacancy has also arisen in the Way ward of Mid Devon District Council.
Conservative Sarah Fox has resigned from the authority, and an election is set to be held next month.

The deadline for candidates to submit nomination papers for this by-election is noon on Friday, August 30. Although they may be sent in the post, it is recommended that nomination forms are taken in person to the council offices at Phoenix House, Tiverton, as soon as possible.
Anyone who is likely to be away, busy or unable to get to their polling station on September 26, can request a postal vote from the council.
The deadline for receipt of postal vote applications is September 11.
