I DON’T condone anyone who abuses speed limits or any motorist who sits on your tail when you’re doing the correct speed limit.

However, Embankment Road from Marsh Mills to Lanhydrock Road was, for many years, a 50mph zone, suddenly it changed over night without any warning to 40mph and speed cameras appeared.

So please be aware with Plymouth City Council, anything could happen to make money out of the poor motorist.

“@Jamieq1 - the taxi driver was not speeding by 'accident' he was speeding through not paying attention - a big difference!”

“Of course there is no need for the signs on Gdynia way now as we all know it is 30 mph now. Anyone who doesn't needs to read a bit more or get out. What gets me is tailgating. I am going to the family planning clinic and I am going to start passing condoms to those who feel the need to drive so close to my rear end. I will not be intimidated to go faster end of.”

“Where have you been Brenda ? It's been forty along Embankment Road for the past 10/11 yrs or so.

Is there no other news Herald, why all these letters re speeding on page one...........there should be a separate heading for letters .”

“Yes I remember the 50mph days well. One day I was driving along Emabnkment Road in the days before cars had ABS, went round the bend and found a stopped queue in front of me. My fault of course, and it was the birthday or the poor chap whose Astra I clobbered. Both cars were repaired on insurance but even so, not a good day.

The 40mph speed limit is appropriate for Embankment Road.

The other aspect to this debate of course is that Gdynia Way needs 30mph signs to be painted on the road surface, but the council seem to be opposing this common sense measure, for reasons unknown.”

“yes, speeding by accident. He was doing between 38 and 41 (caught 3 times in a day), thinking the limit was 40. He was wrong of course - it had just changed to 30 - but repeater 30 signs would have made it a lot clearer for every motorist. My point is he was breaking the law because of missing a pair of signs, rather than purposelly speeding - speeding by accident!”

“I just wished common sense would prevail and they would put repeater 30mph signs when a road is opened at 30mph or changed to 30mph. Yes, the law says you only need a pair of them at the start of the zone due to streetlights but to me common sense is to add in a few extra signs from the day it opens/changes just so that there is no doubt. Then you cut the debate. Yes, that taxi driver was wrong, but he was still speeding by accident - anything that makes people abide the law and drive safer should be implemented - it's supposed to be about safety after all - the law is an a*s.”
