One killed, second injured in industrial accident in Plymouth
A 22-YEAR-OLD MAN killed in an industrial incident was struck by a falling pallet, police say.
The young Slovakian was working in the freezer area of Interfish Ltd, in Cattedown, when he was struck by the pallet shortly after 7pm on Friday.
The young man sustained fatal injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward so they can establish the exact circumstances.
Health and Safety Inspectors are continuing to investigate the incident, which also injured another young man.
The second man was taken to Derriford Hospital with an arm injury but was later discharged.
Representatives from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the police were at the firm in Wallsend Industrial Estate yesterday to continue their investigation, after police were initially alerted at around 7.45pm on Friday.
A spokesman at the HSE said: “We are aware of the incident and are making official enquiries.”
Police are leading the investigation known as Operation Keypad and are appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward by contacting police on 101 quoting reference 672 of 18/10/2013.
Interfish Ltd said it is not in a position to comment yet.
