More livestock farmers choose to use electronic recordings
Latest figures from the Rural Payments Agency show the highest ever proportion of cattle movements – 95 per cent – were reported online or on the self-service phone line in December 2012.
Cattle keepers have always been on the vanguard of using RPA's electronic services and the trend to choose these methods over traditional paper-based reporting is continuing. Farmers also favoured the RPA's British Cattle Movement Service's online system – CTS Online – and the CTS self-service phone line, to report cattle births and deaths. There are also a number of farm software packages that enable farmers to record electronically, rather than use paper.
Overall, 89 per cent of births and 72 per cent of deaths in December 2012 were reported online or on the phone.
Justin Chamberlain, the RPA's customer director said: "Our electronic services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so farmers can report births, movements and deaths at a time that works for them.
