Five months' prison for heroin addict after four offences of shoplifting
A HEROIN addict has been sent to prison for five months after he shoplifted four times in just over a month.
Simon Hansen Roderick, 22, of no fixed abode, appeared at North Devon Magistrates' Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to shoplifting the day before.
The defendant had been arrested on Thursday at Currys in Roundswell, Barnstaple after two off-duty police officers caught him shoplifting computer games.
Prosecutor David Barnes said Hansen Roderick was arrested at 1.25pm and over £250 worth of computer games were found in a carrier bag lined with tin foil.

Mr Barnes added: "He admitted to the police he had gone to the store to steal to feed his heroin addiction."
Tony Dart, solicitor for the defence, said: "The theft was deliberate, he had taken a plastic bag with foil in it so the stolen goods would go undetected through the store's alarms."
The court was told that the defendant had been given a suspended 16-week prison sentence for shoplifting he had committed in November.
The magistrates said they had no choice but to enforce the prison sentence of 16 weeks and increase it by four to take into account the most recent offence.
