Three new councillors for Instow Parish Council after election
INSTOW Parish Council has three new councillors after last week's election.
Michael Champion, Bob Harrison and Will Vandersteen were elected while Rosemary Maccall, who stood after a row over how Instow beach is cleaned, came fourth and missed out on a seat.
Just 31.4 per cent of Instow's 633 electors turned out on Thursday, returning Mr Harrison with 143 votes, Mr Vandersteen with 137 and Mr Champion with 108.
Mrs Maccall polled 85 votes. Mr Vandersteen, 40, who is the human resources manager at North Devon Hospice, was happy to have been elected.

He said: "My wife and I have been interested in making a contribution to the village for some time. My wife was chief organiser of last year's Jubilee celebrations and was on the Instow in Show committee.
"I have no specific agenda, other than to make a contribution towards keeping the village a wonderful place.
"After six years of being a regular weekend visitor, I fulfilled my dream of moving to Instow in April 2012 and have never been happier."
The vacancies came about following the resignation of councillors Stewart White, Ben Thomas and Peter Cook.
Charlie Harper has also resigned. If no election is requested by February 14 the council will co-opt someone to fill the last remaining position. Parish clerk Roger Jacobs has also handed in his notice.
