Is new tourism boss just a waste of cash?
WELL I know I am not alone in thinking this new appointment of a tourism boss is a waste of £70k pa. You read the usual waffle about what such a position will involve and after translating said waffle find that the answer is, not a lot.
I would like to know how many extra high profile events this position will directly attract to Plymouth. How many phone calls will this person be making directly? How many meetings will this person be arranging with events/organisers?
We need people out there directly approaching events in a bid to have them in Plymouth and their salaries should be in the main results based. Major events is what is needed, these attract tourists and tourists spend money.
What can £70k pa buy you? You could pay 70 staff an extra £1,000pa or employ and extra four staff full time, preferably in something like road maintenance.

I recall a councillor stating PCC didn't have the resources to support the resurrection of the airport, but it appears it has the resources to squander £70k pa quite easily.

“The first thing the new tourism boss should do would be to call in Time Team to dig up the famous historic mosaics tourist attraction. that Evans and his lefty cronies buried when they filled in the underpass.
(Google 'Royal Parade underpass mural to see a panorama of what they bulldozed)”

“One person springs to mind.
One person that would have fresh ideas, energy, commitment and a love of everything Plymouth.
One person who can take giant steps forward and move Plymouth up as a top player in tourism
One person that has a massive vision and the mind set to make it work
One person who just gets it done...
