Lights camera action for this magical white horse

M R Happy has found his vocation in life after starring in is his first music video with the happening Cornish band Rosie And The Goldbug.

The strikingly beautiful brilliant white Shire cross Lippizzaner with long flowing mane and a magical air is hoping to turn his hoof to modelling, acting and prop work in addition to his day job (hunting) after dazzling the film crew with his star quality.

"We are so excited," said his owner Rosie Malcolm who watched her 12-year-old being filmed on a remote farm on Bodmin Moor for Rosie And The Goldbug's "You've Changed", due for release on December 1.

"This is what we needed to kickstart his new career. We've talked about it for so long now but we have just never found the time to do his portfolio but with so many positive comments we intend to get on with it," added the event rider from St Mawgan near Newquay.

"I've always been a massive fan of the band and I asked if I could be a dancing Goldbug. We exchanged details and a month later I was dancing in our local HMV during one of the band's live gigs. I thanked Rosie Vanier (lead singer) for letting me be a Goldbug and said if she ever wanted a ride she should let me know."

Upon hearing about the big white horse, Rosie asked if Mr Happy wanted to appear in her music video.

"It didn't take me long to reply and it snowballed from there," explains Rosie who received a call from the band's manager and then the London production company, Draw Pictures, to confirm timings.

"They flew in a distinguished director, Isaac Rentz from Los Angeles, who was really impressed with Mr Happy and he has encouraged us to promote him for further film work and modelling."

Talking on Mr Happy's film debut Rosie said: "It was amazing. I must admit I took him for a long ride the day before to take the edge off him but he took it all in his stride – it was like he had done it all before. He wasn't bothered by the film crew and all their cameras and he seemed to relish galloping after the quad bike with his new jockey on board. I was so proud of him. He was so laid back and coped so well with it all."

Rosie was particularly pleased with the director's comments. "He said Mr Happy was a pleasure to work with and would give him a good reference anytime."

The Cornish band has spent the season playing at festivals all over the country with their dancing Goldbugs in tow and have just released their first self-titled album. The video "You've Changed" can be viewed on their website www.rosieandthegoldbug.com or on Mr Happy's website www.mrhappywhitehorsemodel.com.

So how did Rosie find her 17.1hh stable star who lives in a pink stable with a stunning view towards The Vale of Lanherne?

With three event horses at the time, she was looking for another youngster to bring on.

"I saw a thoroughbred chestnut advertised with the name Mr Happy and loved his description and so went to see him," explains Rosie.

"Mum (Linda) and I turned up to find a white shire horse called Silver. I said there must be some mistake as I wanted something to event and turned away but as we sat in the car and looked back he looked so sad. Mum persuaded me to return and ask to see him ridden as she fancied riding again."

Rosie describes how his owner duly tacked him up, rode him out onto the main road with china clay lorries blasting past before taking him to an indoor school.

"I couldn't believe this horse who didn't bat an eyelid at anything and then popped over huge fences – he has a massive jump. We went home to think but soon went back to buy Mr Happy, aka Silver. He didn't know his name so we stuck with Mr Happy."

Rosie recalls: "I'll never forget the vetting. His owner galloped him up to the top of the hill and he appeared out of the mist with his flowing white mane. He pulled up with his snaffle bridle and mum said – I'm sold. She has been riding him ever since. He adores hunting with the North Cornwall and Four Burrow Hunts and I've taken him eventing and showjumping – he is such a star."

She adds: "We are so excited. So many people laugh at him due to his size and breed but when they see him perform they soon go quiet.

"The story goes that he came from Wales owned by a Mr Jones. We have managed to trace his Lippizzaner father, Ovita, who apparently escaped and ran with the shire mare. He is one in a million and we would love for him to do some modelling as he is unique – so Joules and Jordan, here we come......!"
