Four offenders caught in Barnstaple police sting
Police caught three shoplifters and a person with drugs during a targeted sting in Barnstaple town centre yesterday.
Officers from Barnstaple Neighbourhood Beat Team and the Proactive Delivery Team carried out a plain clothes operation targeting shoplifters in Barnstaple town centre on Thursday 3rd October 2013. The police worked closely with North Devon Council town centre CCTV, store detectives and stores to identify shoplifters, identify offences committed and deal with offenders in a variety of ways. During the day police identified four offences - three of shoplifting and one for possession of controlled drugs.
Two of the offenders were dealt with via the Restorative Justice programme, one offender received a fixed penalty notice and one was cautioned for the offence. PCSO Simon Barrett, who organised the day, said "This was a successful day.
"I would like to thank all the partners involved in the operation and am looking forward to the continuation of that co-operation. "This forms part of a series of operations in Barnstaple and further afield to target shoplifting.
