£10,000 damage to Shiphay play park after arson attack
TEENAGE arsonists caused £10,000 damage to a new children's play park in Shiphay.
Now Torbay Council says because of limited funds, it will not be able to repair the damage.

Part of the play equipment, installed in 2010 in Shiphay's Kitson Park (pictured) in Cadewell Lane, was destroyed on Sunday afternoon.
Police are treating the fire as arson and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a teenage girl and boy in the park shortly before the 2.30pm blaze.

A rubber tyre, rubber matting, netting and wooden posts were burned.
Cllr Jeanette Richards said: "This is a case of mindless vandalism on a highly valued play area and is very demoralising for the staff and the community who have worked extremely hard to ensure local youngsters have a safe and enjoyable place to visit.
"It was hugely irresponsible and in just a few minutes it could have all been lost. Due to the council's already limited funds we will be unable to replace the damaged equipment, estimated at approximately £10,000, which will be to the detriment of the local community. At this time we are only able to make the equipment safe so it can still be used."
On Facebook, friends of Kitson Park said: "So sad. You put in so much effort to make the park look so nice and someone comes along to spoil all your hard work."
Police are appealing for the public to help them catch the offenders, quoting Crime Reference FT13/1142.

“For many years now Torquay council have been actively engaging in moving problem families and criminals from larger cities to live in Torquay. This is the result.”

“No, however I'm fed up with idiots like this always taking from our community - and the law not dealing with them adequately. At least by burning them and their houses the community can benefit by not having to fund their dull money whilst having a free BBQ party. It's basically a positive outcome from negative people who do not deserve a place in any human community.”

“Let's hope the culprits rote in hell. Should they ever be brought before a court, the judge will just say "oh dear - try not to do it agian". So now let's start with proper justice, if anyone knows who did this then please go and firebomb their house - you have the whole backing of Torbay on this one. See how they like it.”
