£30k awning for Tiverton's Pannier Market?
TIVERTON'S Pannier Market could get a canvas awning to shelter shoppers in all weathers.
Market bosses are expected to apply to the £100,000 Mary Portas Pilot scheme to fund the project.
The oval awning would cover the area between the main market building and lock-up stalls opposite. It would allow more events and live music to be staged.
A new canopy would cost around £80,000, but market manager Chris Firth says a second-hand one could be bought for less than half that price, possibly £30,000.

He has discussed the proposal with Tiverton MP Neil Parish, who is said to be supportive.
Business leaders have called for more investment in the market, which they believe could be a major draw for the town.
Another proposal is for Mid Devon District Council to hand over control of the market to Tiverton Town Council.
