I have nothing but praise for the cheerful staff at hospital

ALL too often we hear of bad reports on our NHS hospitals, but having recently had to use the services of your local Derriford hospital I felt the desire to put my experience on paper.

My son was on holiday with his grandparents last week in Kingsand, when he was overcome with excruciating pain.

He has suffered from similar pain before and I took him to my local hospital whereby they examined him in the children's A&E and put it down to severe groin strain.

Because he was in such agony and couldn't put any weight on his leg, his grandparents took him to Derriford hospital in the very early hours of Friday morning, and from that moment they and myself experienced nothing but top service from all staff.

They examined him, gave him pain relief and sent him for X-ray. By 7.30 of that morning, he was a lot calmer and the pain had subsided so I had anticipated that he would be discharged and coming home, however to ensure no infection had set in, they did a blood test and it was because of the length of time it generally took for the results to come through, I drove the 4 hours to be with him.

From the moment I arrived I have nothing but praise for all the staff at the hospital.

This is from the reception staff, to the car park reception staff, to the coffee shop staff, the restaurant, the ward nurses, the doctors, the consultants, the porters and the cleaners. Everyone had a smile.

Not only was it the staff that made our whole experience so pleasurable, but the care provided for my son.

The X-ray showed an area of fluid build up so he had an MRI to ensure nothing sinister was happening and to ensure there definitely was no infection within his body, he was kept in overnight for observation.

I am extremely impressed at how thorough the care was at Derriford hospital, how lovely all the staff were and how clean the hospital itself was.

I do hope you will share my experience with your readers as I have said, all too often there is bad press and sometimes it is good to read something good about your local services.

    “i quite agree weve never had a bad expirience the times we have been there mostly in a and e at 3 4 or 5 in the morning the staff were all lovely also in outpatients too and i would not like to forget the ambulance crews they to are loverly”
