PYJAMAS, slippers and dressing gowns would not be the usual attire for a day at work.

But for one day next month, the North Devon Hospice wants companies and schools across North Devon and Torridge to don their favourite bed wear in celebration of the hospice's first ever PJ Day.

The event, which takes place on October 22, has been organised to raise vital funds for the hospice.

And whether you work in an office, a police station, a pub, a classroom, or any other environment, all you have to do is wear your best jammies for the day, and pay £2 for the privilege.

Staff at the North Devon Journal have already pledged their support to the event.

Ben Curtis, advertising consultant at the Journal, said: "PJ Day is a fun and easy way to raise money for a very worthy, and local, cause.

"It's not hard just to throw on a pair of pyjamas for the day. Plus, when else do you have an excuse to wear slippers around the office?"

Joel Cooper, reporter at the newspaper, said: "My bed is probably my favourite place in the world.

"With this in mind, I can think of no better way to enjoy a comfortable afternoon at the office than in my beloved PJs. I can't wait."

On the day, there will also be a North Devon Hospice travelling bed, provided by furniture retailer Padfields, which will take hot chocolates to all those involved.

A photographer from the Journal will also capture all the best moments from the day.

Rebecca Worth, from the hospice's fundraising team, said: "When we get up in the morning for a hard day's work, we'd all love to just stay in our pyjamas.

"On PJ Day, that's exactly what you can do. It promises to be a whole lot of fun and people can take part to whatever extent they like — whether that is by just keeping their slippers on for the day or going all out by wearing their favourite striped pyjamas."

The hospice is now looking for other companies to sign up to the event.

Rebecca said: "This will be a fantastically fun event, and for a suggested donation of £2 to wear your PJs for the day, you will be helping to raise much-needed funds for North Devon Hospice.

"Get your boss to give us a call and we'll send you everything you need for the perfect PJ Day."

If you would like to be part of North Devon's PJ Day, phone Rebecca Worth on 01271 347204 or e-mail rebeccaworth@north devonhospice.org.uk.

The event will take place on Friday, October 22.
