It's so simple to donate blood
THOSE afflicted with first time nerves about the prospect of giving blood are being urged to think about their first day of school for inspiration.
The NHS Blood and Transplant department say there is a constant demand but only four per cent of the eligible population donate regularly.
That's why they are keen to banish any feelings of butterflies which new blood donors might have.
Donating is quite simple and following the steps from start to finish should take around an hour.
At the beginning, donors will be asked to fill a questionnaire about themselves and their heath, followed by a quick finger prick check of iron levels, and providing everything is fine, donating will take only 15 minutes.
At the end, refreshments will be provided.
Anyone between 17-65, weighing more than 50 kg and in general good health can potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.
People wishing to contribute can do so at the following donor sessions in the coming month, at:
● Payhembury Hall, Payhembury, tomorrow, from 1.30 to 3.15pm and 5pm to 7.15pm
● Cullompton Rugby Club, Cullompton, on Friday, September 17, from 1.30 to 3.15pm and 5pm to 7.15 pm
● Boniface Centre, Crediton, on Wednesday, September 29, from 1.30 to 3.15pm and 5pm to 7.15 pm.
