It's all so smart in wonderland
A SIX-WEEK refurbishment project has been carried out at the Bay Tree Licensed Lounge in Torquay and the new owners are hoping to turn it into a popular wonderland.
Prior to The Bay Tree being bought by business partners Tanya Stockwell and Ian Smith it was owned and run by the same family for more than 40 years.
Ian said: It was labelled as being a bar/bistro, but we prefer it to be known as a licensed lounge.
"Our registered company name is Alice's Wonder Lounge Ltd as it is our intention, in the very near future, to incorporate the Alice In Wonderland theme into the lounge, offering something a little unique and different to the other businesses in Torquay."

The licensed lounge, in Union Street, has already been revamped to a high standard and since re-opening its doors the changes have proved popular.
Ian said: " We have had a very positive response to the changes, especially from those people who used to visit in the past.
"We are now busy creating an awareness in promoting and advertising ourselves to the Torquay public and the other businesses in the area, working hard to network and incorporate ourselves into the local community. Already, at this very early stage, we have been met with warm welcome."
Ian and Tanya's background is in catering, retail management and the customer service industry.
Ian has successfully run his own coffee shop and pub, while Tanya has enjoyed success in retail management roles, which has given her excellent customer service skills essential in dealing with the public on a day-to-day basis.
Ian said: "The lounge is currently open from 8am through to about 5pm or 6pm, depending on whether we have customers enjoying a drink at the bar after work.
"We have a full breakfast menu which is served up until 11.30am and a daytime lunch menu.
"All our produce is locally sourced and everything is homemade including all our soups and daily specials."
The lounge holds an alcohol and entertainments licence and they intend to open during the evening.
Ian added: "Initially this will take the form of a few specialist evenings during the first two to three months.
"Afterwards, we will offer more of an evening restaurant menu.
"We feel the night time trade will be very successful as our location and what we have to offer is different.
"We will also be running some live music evenings and offering the lounge out for parties and special events.
"Both Tanya and I are keen to embrace the full community spirit which has welcomed us into Torquay.
"Hopefully we can give something back as we drive forward with our new adventure."
