Fire service strike cancelled
A five-hour strike planned by firefighters for across the Westcountry tomorrow has been called off at the eleventh hour.
Both Cornwall Fire Rescue Service and Devon and Somerset Fire Rescue Service had prepared contingency plans to be implemented as the action took place tomorrow.
The strikes, scheduled to take place between 6.30pm and 11.30pm, were designed to be the second to take place within a month.
The Government had wanted fire fighters to work until 60 before they could retire on a full pension but the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) argued that was too old.
