FIREFIGHTERS called for reinforcements after being sent to deal with a car fire in Tiverton on Friday, only to discover the blaze had spread to a nearby building.

The first crew discovered the vehicle well alight in Mountbatten Road just before 8pm. Firefighters donned breathing apparatus to deal with the incident and called for a second engine.

The vehicle was destroyed.

The building, which was partially damaged, was cleared of smoke using fans. Police also attended.
