THURLESTONE assistant Anthony Buchanan won Tuesday's PGA West Region Yelverton pro-am with a scorching six-under-par 65.

The 23-year-old from Saltash carded seven threes in an outward nine of six-under-par 30, including an eagle at the par five fifth.

Buchanan returned in regulation to finish two shots clear of runner-up Richard O'Hanlon from Cornwall.

Buchanan said: "I have been playing nicely all year but more recently have managed to have more joy with my putter."

China Fleet's Dominic Rehaag shared third spot with Crediton's Barry Austin on three-under-par 68.

DAN HENDRIKSEN (Churston) won the PGA West Region Pro-Am at Tavistock with a three under par 68, to finish two shots clear of joint runners-up Chris Gill (Exeter) and James Pickard (Honiton).

DEVON – including four players from Yelverton – have returned to the 2012 Channel League summit following an 8-7 win over Wiltshire at Exeter Golf & Country Club.

Victory puts Adam Bridgewater's team back on top of the table with one match to play.

Devon have won three matches ahead of a home game against third-placed Gwent at Royal North Devon Golf Club on Sunday, September 2.

Yelverton's Bridgewater, who won his singles match six and five at Exeter, said: "I always said the league would be a close affair and that a team could top the table with four wins – and I still think that is the case.

"Both ourselves and Wiltshire had players missing. We had three away ahead of the British Boys' Championship and Wiltshire had a couple missing because they were on England home international duty.

"It was a close match which went down to the wire and a two and one win for our last man out, Sandy Urquhart."

Devon led 3½-1½ following the morning foursomes following a top-of-the-order success for Yelverton brothers Leon and Ryan Fricker.

Yelverton's James Smith was also a singles winner as Devon won five of the 10 afternoon matches to clinch victory.

Following the win over last year's English County champions, Bridgewater admitted: "It looks as though it's going to go all the way to the wire."

ELFORDLEIGH are set to compete in their first Devon Palairet Memorial finals day tomorrow when they meet Dawlish club Warren in the morning semi-finals at Woodbury Park.

Torquay play Teign Valley in the other semi final with the winners meeting in the afternoon, when the play-off for third and fourth place also takes place.
