POLICE have issued a warning to revellers to keep their drinks close in the run up to Christmas after a suspected spiking incident involving two young women at a city nightclub.

Detectives have revealed they are investigating an incident at an un-named club in the city where two women, both aged 23, are believed to have had their drinks spiked with a drug.

Samples have been taken from both of the women, understood to be local to Plymouth, in an effort to confirm what kind of substance was put in their drinks sometime of the night of November 28.

A police spokesman said both women contacted police on Thursday complaining of similar experiences which led detectives to suspect they had fallen prey to a drug.

The spokesman said: "We understand the women had not drunk before going out and had only gone to the one nightclub.

"From the information they have given us and from the descriptions of their experiences and the effects they felt that night, we do believe the women have had a substance added to their drinks.

"Clearly this is of great concern and we would like to reiterate our message to revellers, particularly women, to keep an eye on their drinks.

"In the run up to Christmas there will be a lot partying in the city's pubs and clubs and while this is a rare and isolated incident, we urge people to be aware of their surroundings and be responsible with their drinks.

"We are working with pubs, clubs and Best Bar None organisation to reduce the risk of such incidents."

Anyone with information about this or similar incidents are urged to call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting police log number 449 or 29/11/12.

“@lweston & Plymouthlad63 stupidity will always prevail - It's people like you who know nothing about the clubbing industry and brand everything in your own stupid cynical minds as to what you think is right when actually you are very very wrong. I suppose we should all avoid Walkabout because of that girl who died last year in May from a heart condition which had nothing to do with the club or drink? C'mon, say your point as to why it is so important from your foul stupid mouth that the clubs should be named and shamed because of someone elses actions? C'mon make your point! I bet you have never even stepped foot in a club.”

“To the people that want the club named - er, the culprit has legs and can go to any club, jeez the stupidity of some people. You cannot blame an extablishment for what some low live has carried on to the premises hidden on their body and used to spike a drink unless you carry out a full body search on everyone who goes to every pub and club. Do engage your brains before posting.”

“How is this the pubs fault? Why destroy someone's business because of a couple of idiots?

Don;t leave your drinks unattended or accept drinks from strangers. Knowing the pub / club matters not one jot.”

“This place should have been named and shamed so people know where to stay clear of.
What a shame that the Police and the Herald dont think that way”
