Ten-year-old boy taken to hospital with a fractured ankle after he was struck by a hit and run driver in Holsworthy
A HIT-AND-RUN driver left a child with fractured ankle after driving into him in a street in Holsworthy, according to police.
The ten-year-old boy was struck outside Vision Express on Bodmin Street on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the town at 5.10pm, after the driver fled the scene leaving the young boy suffering from an open fracture on his ankle.
The child was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by land ambulance. A rapid response vehicle, full ambulance crew, doctor and local police were called to the collision.

The road remained closed for some time while officers carried out an investigation of the scene.
Sergeant Keith Parkinson of Exeter's serious collisions unit said a driver of a silver Vauxhall Astra has been interviewed. He said: "The vehicle involved has been located and the driver of the car at that time has been interviewed."
People in Holsworthy said they are shocked and angry someone could leave an injured child in agony.
Claire Orchard, 30, said she is appalled at what happened.
Claire said: "I think what happened is absolutely disgusting. How can anyone hit someone, especially a child, and drive off?
"I always thought Holsworthy was a safe place to live, but obviously I am wrong. I really hope they catch whoever did this and come down hard on them. My heart goes out to the poor child and his family."
Other people in Holsworthy believe this incident is all the more reason why CCTV coverage is urgently needed in the town.
Jenni Lucas said: "I am disgusted that anybody could knock a child over and drive away not knowing what condition the child is in.
"Maybe the town should invest in some CCTV and speed cameras to try and prevent this happening again."
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The driver left the scene and failed to stop after the collision.
The boy sustained a serious ankle injury.
"His injuries are not thought to be life changing or life threatening. Anyone who has any information or saw the incident please contact us."
